God wants to:
- Get us out of the 'world': When you give your life over to Jesus, one of the first things he does is is, he takes you away from the world and its petty things. He sets you apart for a higher purpose in life. He makes you a new creation in Christ. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- Get the 'world' out of us: In order that Christ can live through us - in order that God can fulfil His purpose for our lives - we need to take our mind off petty things. E.g. "Why was I served less coffee than him?" or "Let her wait outside some more, just like she made me wait yesterday." God really is above such things and wants us too, to follow suit. If we want God's Holy Spirit to fill us, we must drive out such negative attitudes from our lives in Jesus' name. This will create space for the Spirit to reside in our hearts and preside over our lives with full power. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2) Also, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)
- Get us back into the 'world': When we let go of our childish attitudes towards life and people, our child-like nature comes to the fore. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” (Mark 10:14,15) Once childlike, we are ready to take up challenging assignments for God's Kingdom. God too is confident about our capabilities in Christ and sends us out with power to fulfil His plan for our lives. Strange, isn't it? God trusts a child-like nature more than the nature of an 'adult' or a 'grown-up'! All this does not mean that you cannot begin working for the Kingdom of God while you're growing as a Christian. It only means that He has greater things in store for you in the days to come.
Today, let us create space for God to write something on our hearts and direct our steps for His glory! Amen.
