"Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar." (Ps. 118:27)
I was watching Daystar the other day when Pastor Tom Deuschle began preaching on crucifying the flesh. In the Old Testament days, he said, there were hooks that would bind the flesh of the sacrificed animal to the altar.
The altar speaks of God, The flesh speaks of worldly desires that consist of lust of the flesh, lust of the eye and the pride of life. (1 John 2:15-17)) With so much of stress-inducing factors around us and temptation to consume in the hope of being 'happy', people miss out on real joy (read Happiness vs Joy). True joy comes from crucifying the flesh and being in communion with God. And the key to communion with God is to be rooted in His Word. His Word is the hook that binds us to Him. The flesh is naturally inclined to get swayed away from God. But the Bible helps us stay centred in God.
Unlike the sacrificed animal flesh, our flesh has life in it. Keeping it hooked requires an act of will. Standing on the promises of God's Word is the surest way to bring our flesh into subjection to our will and in line with God's Word. The Bible holds the key. God has magnified His Word above all His name. (Psalm 138:2) Praise the LORD!
Who loves you the most? It's God! They say that "another name for love is sacrifice." That's true, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." - John 3:16 (This blog may display affiliate ads.
